Blood Type (Blood Type #1) by K.A. Linde

My Rating: 5 Stars
Sex Scenes: Yes.
Series: Yes, Blood Type #1.
Subject: Remember who the real monster is.
Synopsis:
A startling new vision of paranormal romance: When a human ventures into the world of vampires—a decadent milieu of blood-bonds and betrayal—she discovers that not all is what it seems.

For Reyna Carpenter, giving up her body isn’t a choice. It’s survival.

In a civilization laid waste by poverty and desperation, Reyna accepts a high-paying position with the wealthy and hungry vampire elite. Her new job is as the live-in blood escort for the intimidating, demanding, and devilishly handsome Beckham Anderson. He’s everything she expected from a vampire, except for one thing—he won’t feed off her.

Reyna soon discovers that behind Beckham’s brooding, wicked facade lies a unique and complex man. And that, in a dark and divided world, she is more valuable than she ever would have believed.

For with each passing night, Reyna can’t shake the sensation that it’s Beckham who’s afraid of her.

Note: Reyna and Beckham’s story continues in Blood Match.

A paranormal love story was just what I needed! Haven't read one in so long, and I'm glad to say this new series was perfection! I honestly can't wait for the next book.

This story had everything...sexy love scenes, suspense, a little bit of violence and some thrilling action scenes.

The author created this new world in which vampires are part of the society and looking for a way to survive. They are in the hunt for a special type of blood that could change the future, but it's rare. By inserting themselves into politics they are trying to control the available blood pool, and that could be dangerous.

Reyna was following her last option, she had to find a way to help her brothers make money and even though she hated the idea of being a blood whore she had no other choice. It should be easy, giving some blood on a safe environment and then she'll be set for life.

But things were not gonna be as simple as she thought and she finds herself surrounded by some powerful and dangerous people. Add that to the fact that her owner Beckham is a force of nature and she can't seem to stop herself from wanting him.
Unfortunately, he has a lot of secrets and he is adamant to let her in. He is fighting their attraction with everything he's got, but Reyna knows there's something there, too strong to fight forever.

Their connection was just amazing, he went above and beyond to take care of her, he couldn't seem to stay away for too long, there was something about her that attracted him on a deeper level.

They need to trust each other in order to survive, the sooner they realize that the higher chances they will have surviving the real monsters.

Simply amazing! Can't wait for the next one.

EXCERPT
That was the moment Beckham appeared in the doorway like a storm cloud.
Reyna straightened in her seat at the expression on his face. He walked across the room like a tightly coiled spring ready to explode.
“Ah Beckham, there you are,” Harrington said.
“Excuse me, William. I need to speak with Reyna. Alone.”
She hastened out of her seat and followed him around the corner. He tugged her straight through the kitchens, out the back door, down a corridor, and into a dead end. Then her back was slammed against the brick wall. His fist connected with the wall behind her, and she felt the wall shudder. Debris floated onto her shoulders.
“You left,” he growled.
“I . . .”
“No.” He pressed his finger to her lips roughly. She stopped breathing and just stared up into his eyes as dark as night. Her body trembled under the feral stare. “You left without me.”
The silence was weighted. All she could do was sit with their bodies nearly touching. His finger on her mouth. Her mind wandering to hellacious places.
“You are my subject. Can you imagine what it was like when I found you missing? When you turned up with three of my kind?” She shook her head minutely. He bared his teeth to her, and she shrank back. “These are meant to drink your blood. To drink you dry until there is nothing left of your body but a dry corpse. We are killers. We don’t hesitate. Just because we’re wearing suits and seem more like you . . . does not mean we are like you. We are not like you. They especially are not like you. The only way you get to the top of Visage is to be fucking ruthless, Reyna. Do you understand?”
“You’re . . . scaring me,” she whispered.
“Good.”

Do you think you're ready for Julian's story? I thought I was but OMG his intensity was hard to handle.

I have to accept I did enjoy finding out his weakness, he became a lot more human in my eyes and that made me fall for him. All his bravado was just hiding his fear for being left behind. His life hadn't been easy and he hid behind contracts and perfect subs he could bend to his will.

But he was lonely, even though he had no idea what he needed he realized he wanted a change.

His vacation got interrupted in the best way possible when Dani jumped into his car and he was in for one more surprise when this perfect clueless sub's best friend showed up. He was more than excited about these prospects.

Dani had always put everyone else's happiness before hers and that's what made her run. She was trapped and Julian might be just what she needed.

Finn was also stuck, he loved Dani all his life but he wasn't sure he could give her everything she needed without loosing a part of himself in the process.

That's where Julian came in, he was the missing piece and he could change their lives in ways they didn't even imagine.

But like always, life can surprise you and they unlocked something within him, and he couldn't make it stop. His biggest fear was unfolding and there was nothing he could do, he was not in full control and that was unacceptable in his world.

Loosing control might be what set him free, but in the end he will have to chose to embrace it or run the other way.

* * * *
“What on earth is that look for?” Julian stared down at her, his lips pulled up in obvious amusement.
Finn leaned over so he could be heard over the loud music. “I think Dani is enjoying her role as town harlot.”
Julian frowned. “Harlot? Why would she be a harlot?”
Dani and Finn laughed together. For the first time, they completely understood something Julian didn’t.
“This is a small town, Sir,” Finn explained. “All anyone is going to talk about tomorrow is the fact that Dani Bay snuck up the stairs at The Barn with two guys. Trust me, she is going to be called all kinds of names. Mostly to her back, though.”
She shrugged. It was to be expected. At least no one would be feeling sorry for her.
Julian’s face went dark, and his fingers tightened around hers. “They had better not say anything where I can hear it.” He relaxed and nodded down at her. “I’m going to speak with Jackson, dear. You and Finn stay together. We’ll be leaving shortly. We’ll retrieve Finn’s things and go back out to the ranch.”
He turned and walked off, supremely confident that his orders would be met.
He turned back suddenly. “And stay out of trouble.”
Dani grinned. He didn’t look so confident that she would follow that edict. He walked away. She watched his gorgeous ass as it disappeared into the crowd. When she turned, she noticed that Finn was watching, too.
“I’m sorry.” Finn pulled back slightly, his hand coming out of hers. That look was back in his eyes.
“Are you going to be an asshole?” she asked.
“What?”
“I thought we worked through this, but it looks like you’re going to be an asshole.” She wasn’t putting up with it. Maybe she would have before but being with them had changed her.
Being with Julian and Finn together seemed to have altered something fundamental in Dani. It had been beautiful. She’d never felt as deeply as she did when they were kissing her, loving her. There had been that terrible moment when she was sure Julian was leaving, but he’d stayed. He had to care about her. He cared, and Finn cared. She wasn’t going to let anyone take that away from her or make her feel ashamed. That was hers.
Finn stared almost blankly and then shook his head. “I’m sorry. I spent so long trying to hide this from you.”
“Hide what? That I knew you were gay? I was well aware of that. Why did you get upset because I caught you drooling over Julian’s ass?”
His eyes slid down. “Damn it, Dani. This is why I stayed away. I knew it should be only the two of us, but I wasn’t sure I could do it. I’m not sure I can stay away from men.”
Julian was shaking his head at Jack, who seemed to be teasing him something fierce. Dani stared at him for a moment. She noticed she wasn’t the only one. All around her, other women had their eyes on the hot new guy. They could look, but Julian was hers. He might not know it, but she planned on keeping him. And Finn. As soon as they ironed out a few things.
“And it never occurred to you to say, hey, Dani, here’s the problem. Let’s see if we can solve it? No, you decide to keep your mouth shut and almost let me marry someone I didn’t love because you didn’t want to admit you’re bi.”
“Damn it, I didn’t want to lose you. I love you, Danielle. You’re the only thing in my life that’s permanent. I would rather keep you in my life than lose you because I can’t be normal. It should be two people. A marriage should be two people.”
Oh, yes, she had to fix his way of thinking. “Says who? The old biddies at church? Screw them. Why does everything have to be one way? What we did up there didn’t hurt anyone. It isn’t anyone’s business but ours. I love you, Finn, but I think I’m falling for Julian, too. Can you handle that?”
“I can certainly try, baby. I was willing to love you from afar. I prefer loving you up close.”

Chaser (Dive Bar #3) by Kylie Scott

My Rating: 4 Stars
Sex Scenes: Yes.
Series: Yes, Dive Bar #3
Subject: Changing for love .
Synopsis:
Given his well-earned bad boy reputation, Eric is having a tough time scoring.. When single Jean moves to town, she seems heaven sent by the sex gods. Only problem is, she not only wants nothing to do with him, but it turns out that she's pregnant.

Starting over in a small town, Jean is determined to turn her wild lifestyle around and be the kind of mother she always wished she'd had. Since local bar owner and all round hottie, Eric Collins, is now determined to steer clear of her pregnant self, it should be easy. When she goes into labour during a snow storm and her car slides on some ice, it's Eric who comes to the rescue.

There seems to be a bond between them now, but is it enough? And can Eric give up his manwhore ways to be the man Jean needs?

I have to accept I was sceptic about reading Eric's story, and who would blame me.
The first chapter in the book I hated him, he was looking for someone to settle down or at least try to so people would get off his back about being insensitive and unreliable when it came to women and life in general.

He singled Jane out and was shocked to find out she was pregnant... not a surprise, since all he could think about was himself. How could he even contemplate getting involved with someone that would soon be a mother.

But destiny had another plan for him and he couldn't get her off his mind.

He tried to avoid her but they were like magnets and he soon realised he couldn't stay away. Maybe being friends wouldn't be such a bad thing.

Jane was young but strong, she fought for her baby and was not ready to give everything up for a guy, that's what made her irresistible in his eyes. She only had eyes for her baby but little by little she also started seeing Eric too.

As we know, love always finds a way, and his and Jane's story would turn out to be a truly beautiful one.

They changed him in the best way possible without him even realising it was happening. He found a part of himself he didn't know he had; caring for someone other than himself might lead him to his best adventure so far, and just maybe, change his life forever.

Seeing him under another light did change my perspective of him, still it's not always good to think we can change people and we will always get the happily ever after we want, they were the lucky ones, but only because he wanted to make this change.

He was ready for more and he found everything he was missing in her and her baby.

EXCERPT
I’d been tricked. Betrayed.
After Andre and Jean ate their lunch, we headed outside to deal with her stuff. The cold wind suited my mood to perfection.
Talk about disappointed.
“Don’t lift that, it looks heavy,” I snapped.
Jean blinked. “It’s a pillow.”
“The world’s largest pillow ever. You can’t be too careful.” My gaze roamed over her swollen middle. “You’re . . .”
“Pregnant?” she asked with a voice dripping poison and sugar.
“Are you having trouble with the concept?”
“Absolutely not. I was just going to say huge, that’s all.”
She blew out an exasperated breath. “Thanks, Eric. That makes me feel so much better.”
“I just . . .”
“Don’t bother.” The woman turned back to her sensible, medium-sized SUV and got busy riffling through the contents. I was surprised she’d been able to squeeze into the driver’s seat.
Boxes and stuff took up almost every inch inside the vehicle. Each and every box seemed to have been neatly labeled with the contents.
The woman took her organization seriously. She looked over her shoulder. “You know, I can’t help noticing that Eric-the-smooth-moving-flirt has been suddenly replaced by Eric-the-awkward-jerk.”
“Well, you said you were single.” I folded my arms defensively across my chest.
“I am.”
And then there was an awkward silence.
“Yeah, but . . . I mean, in your condition . . .” I fumbled to a halt.
She turned, face all scrunched up. Like I was the one with the problem.
“Just hop out of the way so I can grab some boxes,” I said, voice gruff.
Still nothing from her. “It’s a second-story walk-up and you have a lot of stuff to get up there. You should be taking it easy.” Hands on hips, I tapped my black leather boot against the sidewalk, waiting her out. “Jean, I’m not trying to insult you. It’s the truth.”
She swore quietly, going back to fussing with the contents in the vehicle. I don’t think any woman has ever given me the silent treatment quite this quickly. Usually I’m good for at least a couple of hours after seeing them naked.
Man, I still couldn’t believe this was happening. God hated me or something. Pregnant women and me were enema. Anathema. Whatever. Now that I’d seen her out in the autumn light, however, she looked younger than I’d first guessed. Despite her tired eyes, her skin was smooth, soft looking. She was likely closer to her early twenties than mid.
“How old are you?” I asked.
“Why do you care?”
I shrugged one shoulder. “Just curious.”
“How old are you?”
“Nearly thirty.”
She sniffed. “I’m twenty-two.”
Young, like I’d thought. She was probably too immature for me, anyway.
“Come on, Jean. Let me get some of the boxes.”
Boyd ambled out of the Dive Bar, turning his head this way and that, looking up and down the street. I raised my hand and he started over in our direction. The big cook would make short work out of moving all this stuff. Behind us, Andre and Nell came out of the tenants’ entrance to the Bird Building. The place was a big brick building about a hundred years old. Just past the door was an entryway with stairs leading up to the second floor, followed by two empty shops, their windows covered in flyers about local events. Concerts and parades and shit. They’d been vacant for a while, unfortunately. Andre’s Guitar Den came next, then Pat’s tattoo parlor Inkaho, and the Dive Bar on the corner.
“Everything’s good to go. Alex and I gave it a cleaning last week just to be sure,” said Nell, smacking a kiss on Jean’s cheek.
“You’ll meet Alex later. She’s probably busy working or something now. She’s sort of a shut-in.”
“You two didn’t have to do that,” said Jean. “Thank you.”
“Anytime.”
Andre leaned against the SUV. “Your furniture got delivered yesterday too, so it’s all good to go.”
“Excellent,” said Jean. “I can’t wait to sleep in a decent bed again. Road trips when you’re seven months’ pregnant kind of suck.”
“I bet.”
“Who’s minding the kitchen?” I asked.
“Lydia will text Boyd if they need something,” said Nell.
“We’re only going to be a few feet away from the place.”
I frowned.
“I own the kitchen, Eric. Not you,” she said. “You’re in charge of the bar, that’s all.”
One of Jean’s eyebrows inched up slightly. So I might have implied that I was the sole owner. Shit happened.
I crossed my arms. “Fine. No need to bite my head off.”
“My best online friend just moved to town. We’ve been texting and skyping for months. She’s been an absolute rock for me through all the nerves of being pregnant again,” said Nell. “Stop messing with my happy.”
And then there was an awkward silence. Great. If only there was some way to get out of helping without looking like a raging asshole. The possibility of anything happening between me and Jean had been buried six feet deep, never to be spoken of again.

I'm so in love with the Cowboys and Angels World!

I remember reading the first book in the series and being unable to put it down. I'm sure everyone who's been following the series shares my feelings and probably cried their hearts out at times during this story, because by now we know them. This family is part of our lives and when they hurt so do we.

It was an amazing love story, and not because it was perfect and happy at all times, but because it was raw and real. Love is that way in real life when it's true.

Giving your heart to someone, the way Waylynn and Jonathon did, has it's risks and heartaches along the way. Because love is pain, people are not perfect and when life throws them a curve ball they sometimes hurt the people they love the most.

That's when the true part of true love comes to play. If someone loves you the way Jonathon loved her, they won't stand down, they will never stop fighting for you and that is what we can all hope for. To find someone who can stay besides us even when we feel we can't stay standing anymore.

Waylynn was always one of my favorites from the family, she had a fiery spirit, she fought so hard to recover that made her thirsty for life. But at the same time, we couldn't blame her for being scared of opening her heart again. She had done that once and she lost herself in the process.

I don't think she could have found someone with a heart more pure that Jonathon, he was everything she didn't know she needed and when he looked at her everything else disappeared.

A beautiful story like always.

EXCERPT I didn’t hear a word that the interior designer was saying. I was focused on the way Jonathon looked in those Wranglers. And his boots. And the freaking black cowboy hat that made his grey eyes stand out. I swallowed hard. Jesus…could this guy get any hotter? Jonathon caught my stare from across the room. When he smiled my panties nearly disintegrated. The man had never even touched me, and yet one look from him and I was damn near panting. Yes, he could get hotter. Christ Almighty. Before I could stop myself, my tongue ran over my dry lips. Jonathon’s brows rose and his boyishly handsome smile turned into a sexy-as-hell grin. When his eyes smoldered, my breath hitched. I wiped my brow. Shit, is it hot in here? Jonathon knew where my dirty little mind had taken me, and I was pretty damn sure his was going in the same direction. I closed my eyes and tried not to picture anything sexy, but failed. Me…up against the wall with him buried deep inside me, giving me a long overdue orgasm. “Waylynn? Waylynn?” Ann’s voice pulled me from my naughty thoughts. Popping my eyes open, I cleared my throat. “What? Huh?” With a sweet smile, Ann repeated the question I had totally tuned out. “The color scheme. Are you good with it?” I frowned. What in the heck was she talking about? Color scheme? “Umm.” The young woman waited patiently, while I stood there with my mouth open like an idiot. “Color scheme?” I asked with a slight smile. Ann laughed. “Did you even hear a word I said?” My eyes darted to Jonathon. He was leaning against a desk in the middle of the room. It was the only piece of furniture that had been left by the previous owners of this space. His arms were now crossed over his massive chest, and he wore a shit-eating grin. Did the man know how freaking handsome he was? That sex appeal dripped off of him? He winked, and I had to lock my knees to keep from falling. Bastard. He knew exactly where my mind had gone, because his was there as well. Turning back to the interior decorator, I replied, “I’m so sorry. Jonathon was distracting me.” One quick glance back and Jonathon’s smile vanished, replaced by a shocked expression. “Me?” he asked. I nodded. “Yes. You.” Ann was now staring at Jonathon. I could see by the look in her eyes and the way she chewed her lip that she was having similar thoughts. It was obvious by the way she was trying not to look in his direction while she talked. She was probably the same age as he was, and that pissed me off. Then again, I had to remind myself that Jonathon hadn’t been staring at Ann. He’d been staring at me. “What did I do?” Jonathon asked. I wanted to say that his hotness was making my panties wet, and the throbbing between my legs was making it hard to think, but I decided it was best to avoid the truth. “That desk you’re leaning on. I keep wondering why the previous owner left it?” Jonathon looked down at the desk as Ann asked, “Do you want to keep the desk? It would be beautiful refinished.” I shrugged. “I’m not sure.” Jonathon walked around it. “I’m sure we could put this to good use. I can come up with an idea or two.” His head lifted and his eyes caught mine. I swore they turned as dark as the night sky. I swallowed, trying to ignore the pulse between my legs.
